Session Agenda Overview eMetric Available data reports eMetric in the classroom Question and answers

eMetric An interactive tool for analyzing PSSA data by district, school, grade, subgroup, and student Stores multiple years of data PSSA and PASA data Reporting category data

Things to Keep In Mind Blue words indicate pull down menus Scrolling over graphs gives other options and information Have some questions in mind before you use the interactive web site; this will help you with sifting through the data

Data Informed Decision Making DataAnalysis/ Discovery Solutions eMetric is a tool that helps organize data and generate graphs from the data.

Navigating the Home Screen Only schools with the selected grade are displayed. Work your way down the screen Radio Buttons Allow 1 Choice Boxes Allow Multiple Choices Select either PSSA or PASA

The PASA Screen

PASA More Selections

PASA Report

PSSA Types of Reports Group Summary: Scaled Scores and Performance Levels Group Summary: Reporting Categories Graphical Summary: Performance Levels Graphical Summary: Subscales Individual Reports Cohort Comparison Matched Cohort Comparison Longitudinal Individual Performance

Group Summaries ‘Number Tested PL’ includes both PSSA students and PASA students with valid performance level scores ‘Number Tested’ includes only students who took PSSA with a valid scale score For the history data from 2004 through 2006, ‘Number Tested PL’ is the same as ‘Number Tested’ and includes only students with valid PSSA scores.

Getting Reports Easily Viewed on Screen Can be disaggregated or modified Getting Text Can be imported into Excel Can use the data to make your own graphs

Blue words mean there are drop down menus associated with the screen

N Counts

Downloading and Saving Data

Drill To Roster

Scores can then be: Sorted –Ascending –Descending Distributed –By performance level Distributed By –Gender, Ethnicity, ED, IEP, LEP, etc. Cross-Tabulated –Performance Levels –Demographics

Distributed by Ethnicity

Cross Tabulated by Performance

Graphical Summary Three Types Bar- Performance levels on one line Histogram- Performance levels horizontally Line- Plots the mean scaled score over time

Bar Graphs View the percentage by scrolling over the line. Clicking on the line pulls up a drop down menu.

Bar Graph Options Change views by clicking on the options at the bottom. These graphs can be cut and pasted into other documents.

Histogram Clicking on the graph will also pull up a drop down menu, just like for bar graphs. Both graphs can be drilled to roster.

Individual Reports

eMetric in the Classroom Helpful reports: –Summary Reports Contain macro data for tested grade levels in building –Individual Performance Create class rosters of student performance and reporting category data Use Excel to manipulate the data

What to do with the reports Summary Reports –Share with staff –Provides a snapshot of the performance of the grades in the building on all of the PSSA –Look at the reporting category data for the grade level Individual Performance –Share with specific teachers –Analyze effectiveness of instruction for targeted anchors or response types –If looking at longitudinal results, examine trends over time
