6  You can shower with a drain in place  Gauze bandage  remove before shower, then put on a new one  or keep it dry and change it in 7 days or sooner if it gets wet  Tub bath – keep bandages dry  Plastic bandage  change in 7 days, shower or bathe  Call your nurse if you are unsure wrha.mb.ca/bhc

7  Drain bulb will not stay squeezed  Blocked tube  Fluid collects under the skin  Total is less than 30 mls in 24hrs wrha.mb.ca/bhc

8  Any new bleeding from the incisions or drain site  Any foul-smelling fluid coming from the incisions, drain site or drainage bulb  Increased warmth, swelling, pain or redness along incisions  Chills or fever (above 38.5 C or 101.3 F) for two days or more  Signs of infection such as swelling, redness, warmth in your “at risk arm” wrha.mb.ca/bhc

9  Report to the emergency department where you had your surgery If you live outside the city:  Report to your nearest emergency department
