3 Early Years Samuel Langhorne Clemens was born Nov. 30 in Florida, Missouri Mark Twain had 19 cats when he grew up, some of their names were: ABNER, MOTLEY, ASHES, PESTILENCE, BAMBINO, SACK, CLOTH, BUFFALO, BILL, SATAN, CLEVELAND, SIN, FAMINE, SOUR, MASH, FRAULEIN, STRAY, KIT, AND LAZY

4 Family He was the sixth of seven children. Only two of his siblings survived childhood. They were Orion and Pamela. When Samuel was four, he moved to Hannibal, Missouri. His parents were John Marshall Clemens and Jane Lampton Clemens.

5 Random Facts Twain was a device that was lowered in to the water. He was an admirer of Helen Keller. While he traveled he ran into Booker T. Washington many times.
