Prewriting and GPS and PLO Prewriting Stage Georgia Performance Standard ELA4R1 The student demonstrates comprehension and shows evidence of a warranted and responsible explanation of a variety of literary and informational texts. i. Identifies rhyme and rhythm, repetition, similes, and sensory images in poems. PLO: Student will complete a graphic organizer and use it to write an acrostic poem.

Graphic organizer for the prewriting stage of acrostic poetry Poetry: Poetry is a form of writing that has rhythm. Poems do not always rhyme, and they are written in metrical verse. PLO: Student will revise their acrostic poem drafts.

Practice Activity Revising Stage Students will work together as a class to decide which words from the graphic organizer they think are the most appropriate to describe the class. Students will choose one word for each letter.

Assessment Activity Revising Stage Students will use the words chosen by the class to create one descriptive sentence for each letter.
