Defining success Success in life is more than: Success in life is more than: Winning accolades for your work. Winning accolades for your work. Getting rich & famous. Getting rich & famous. Having more than others. Having more than others. It is about making a difference. It is about making a difference. Creating an impact. Creating an impact. Fulfilling your inherent desire to create. Fulfilling your inherent desire to create. When you see life with this perspective you are successful in the true sense. The more you create an impact, the more you fulfill your being in this world. Let us not define success with temporal things, let us define it with everlasting things that you give back to this world. Let us not define success with temporal things, let us define it with everlasting things that you give back to this world.

Your inner voice We look at the factors that drive successful people to create an impact. We look at the factors that drive successful people to create an impact. There are turning points in your life. Injustice happens to you. You are challenged by situations. You have two voices; one that tells you to work hard & finish the task in hand. The other tells you to rest, do it tomorrow or give up on the challenge. Great people listen to the first. There are turning points in your life. Injustice happens to you. You are challenged by situations. You have two voices; one that tells you to work hard & finish the task in hand. The other tells you to rest, do it tomorrow or give up on the challenge. Great people listen to the first. We can either not fight the injustice & challenges of life or use them as motivation. Nelson Mandela was unjustly imprisoned but, he took the courage to take it as an opportunity to grow & free his countrymen. So when one of your voice gives excuses, find out why it does so & how to use it for good. We can either not fight the injustice & challenges of life or use them as motivation. Nelson Mandela was unjustly imprisoned but, he took the courage to take it as an opportunity to grow & free his countrymen. So when one of your voice gives excuses, find out why it does so & how to use it for good.

Create change  When you create change in others’ life you create an impact, a change that will be remembered even after you leave.  It is not the destination that is the motivator, it is the journey itself that motivates you.  Successful people enjoy their journey every bit. They thus work harder, longer & give everything they have for the purpose. Ratan Tata changed the way Indian companies are viewed by taking over Jaguar & Land Rover.  Money can’t keep you motivated, it takes something more. It is your inherent desire to create change & enjoy every bit of the journey.

Passion  Each person who has had a dream & succeeded has worked hard for it.  Put in your everything that you have.  You need to possess the passion & simply enjoy what you do. J.K. Rowling pursued her passion to write no matter what difficulties she had to face.  Successful people work hard because, they simply love what they do & they are passionately involved in their work.

Stuck to principles  Winston Churchill had principles but, the difference between him & us is that he stuck to them.  Successful people stand by their principles. Even in challenging times they don’t change their principles. Identify your principles that will guide your life even through tough times.  One of Apple’s principles is to bring change in the world through technology & every product of theirs is evident that they have stuck to their principles.

Never quit  Quitting is never an option for successful people. They have the perseverance to achieve their goal. They rest only when they achieve it, even after that they create new dreams.  James Braddock known as the ‘Cinderella Man’ a heavy weight boxer, had to work on the docks to support his family during the Great Depression. He had lost several bouts due to hand injuries.  But, he made a comeback from a floundering career & he is remembered for wining the heavy weight title by defeating Max Bear. A commendable show of perseverance & conviction, he never gave up.

Be a student always  Tony Gwynn a great baseball player spent hours studying opposing pitchers. He studied the pattern of the opposing team. He worked hard to be the best at what he did.  Sachin Tendulkar never stops learning. In fact, it is known that he practices the simplest of shots many times. He has learnt the craft of the game.  Learn the craft of the work you do. Be the best by building a wealth of knowledge & applying it. May it be painting, marketing or modeling keep studying. Never stop being a student. Only then will you be able to give the world unique & creative work.

Unwavering faith  What sets apart people who actualize their potential is they have unwavering faith that what they are doing is right.  Everyone has moments of doubt, while others listen to the doubt & give up on their dream, the truly successful people never let doubt engulf their dreams.  You will have doubts, but don’t let it kill your spirit. In fact, come up totally motivated & with renewed energy of optimism.

Take the risk  Every person who has achieved his dream has something that he risked to get there.  Billions of people have the talent to achieve greatness, what they lack is the courage to take risk.  Every time Aamir Khan takes up a movie he takes the risk of doing something completely unique. He takes up off the beat subjects for his movies & does them with conviction. Not many actors have this ability. True that he has reaped the benefits of taking these risks.

Reason  People who have a strong conviction always have a reason to achieve what they want.  A reason can drive you to limits beyond your imagination. You see in you what others don’t.  Abraham Lincoln saw himself the ability to achieve more, even if others viewed him as a poor & illiterate boy. He saw a need for a change in a nation which preached freedom but, still practiced slavery. His reason was that he saw something fundamentally wrong in this anti thesis & set to change it.

The spark of ingenuity Success in life is more than: Winning accolades for your work, getting rich & famous or having more than others. It is about making a difference, creating an impact & fulfilling your inherent desire to create. Successful people: Listen to the voice that encourages them to take challenges. Create an impact by bringing a change in people’s life. Are passionately involved in their work. Stand by their principles even in challenging times. Have the perseverance to achieve their goals & never quit. Remain a student forever & try to master their work. Have an unwavering faith that what they are doing is right. Take risks to achieve their dreams. Have a strong reason for what they set to do.
