RECAP Immigrants and ethnic minorities Unemployed, people with low or no income Disabled (physically, mentally), with psychological problems Prisioners People living far from cities Low education: Illiterate, school drop-outs, school failure, no schooling… Single mothers, victims of domestic violence. Elderly people

We are a second opportunity school, so our students are ALL somehow “disadvantaged”

The Department of Guidance and Counselling is a key stone when dealing with disadvantaged students. -The school counselor meets the needs of the students and helps them with three main domains: -Academic development: getting sure they´re fit in the right course, subject… -Career development -Personal/social development: when the student´s behaviour, background, etc is interfering with his/her achievement

Many students start at our school and they never finish mainly because they find difficulty in acquiring the aims of the curriculum. To avoid this, we offer -Extra support lessons -Remedial classes -Literacy and Pre-secondary Education Courses for students with risk factors for dropout.

To get the driving license it is necessary to pass a test which requires a right level of reading comprehension. Some students can´t get this level : Disabled Inmmigrants Ethnic minorities Elderly people

How can we help them? Improving their self-esteem Working out their reading comprehension Teaching them the mechanism to answer multiple choice tests Advising and being with them in the final test
