Roman Catholic View Life begins at conception / Life is sacred / Life is given and taken by God / ‘a time to be born, a time to die’ Fertility treatment All embryos research is banned – because eggs and embryos are destroyed Procreation to only take place through sexual intercourse Promote alternatives to infertility eg adoption Genetic engineering Allowed if for curing disease and not involve human embryos Destroying embryos is murder Embryos should only be created through natural means as God intends : sexual intercourse

Transplant surgery For Life saving and life changing Uses organs that otherwise buried / burned Gives people chance to help others Brings life out of death Against Very expensive and high risk – at the expense of other operations Possibly compromise doctors in saving the life of potential donor Trade in organs from developing countries
