The Gospel of Matthew The Work of John: 3:1-12 “Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.” Gr. eggizo “to draw or come near to, to approach.” cf. Mt 4:17; 10:7; Luke 10:9-11 – Kingdom was established (cf. Col 1:13-14). “One crying in the wilderness” (Isaiah 40:1-3). Mt 11:13-14; Mal 4:4-6

The Gospel of Matthew The Baptism of Jesus: 2:13-23 “To fulfill all righteousness.” – It was right for Jews to accept John’s baptism (cf. Mt 17:24-27). Spirit of God descending. (Acts 10:38). Voice from heaven. (Mt 17:5; II Pet 1:17).
