What is the Internet? When 2 or more computers are connected in a way that allows them to communicate with each other- that’s a computer network, often called a network. (Usually to share resources, etc) The internet is a collection of computer networks that communicate with each other using a common set of rules- called protocol.
3
TCP/IP Defined TCP/IP is a combination of two protocols that help run the internet. TCP- Transmission Control Protocol defines how data is broken down into packets at the sending end and reassembled at the receiving end. (Like a language) IP- Internet Protocol defines how data is routed, or sent, over the internet. (Like an address) You don’t need to know what the numbers of TCP/IP mean to do work with web pages, it just helps if you know the information.
4
The World Wide Web Created in the late 1980s Allows us to share information with anyone who has access to the internet, anytime, anywhere. How does we search it? 1.Type in the web address (URL – Uniform Resource Locator) 2.Your web browser (The program you use to access the internet) contacts the computer where that page resides (the web server) 3.The server receives your message and sends the page by breaking the information up into little bundles called packets that have the address of your computer on them 4.Finally: the packets wander to your computer through routes and assemble on the screen.
5
Copyright & Plagiarism It’s plagiarism even if it’s just online. ALWAYS site your resources- even to pictures.
6
Bootlegs. PIRATES! Downloading full versions of songs, movies, television shows, etc- WITHOUT paying the appropriate copyright owners is theft. Theft is a crime.

Who, What, Why? All successful websites have a plan. Planning & Purpose to a website help single the site out against the millions upon millions of websites out there. Before contemplating the creation of a website consider the important questions: Who is this website for? (target audience) What is this website for? (target subject) Why is this website being made? (target point) These simple questions will help you before you start working through the process of web design. REMEMBER TO STORYBOARD! It can always help when planning out the design. (Whether or not you need frames, a complex menu, etc.)
