BASEBALL SCENARIO: You’re SAFE when … To Multiply Mixed Numbers, Whole Numbers and Fractions: * NOTE! You multiply straight across! Turn all mixed or whole numbers into improper fractions. Multiply straight across! Simplify answer (mix and reduce). You can cancel in the problem or after!

Turn all mixed or whole numbers into improper fractions.
To Divide Mixed numbers, Whole Numbers and Fractions: Turn all mixed or whole numbers into improper fractions. Flip the 2nd fraction (RECIPROCAL). Multiply (see multiplication notes)

SONG! When you add and subtract . . . LINE ‘EM UP!
Add and Subtract Fractions and Mixed Numbers (WITHOUT BORROWING) SONG! When you add and subtract LINE ‘EM UP! You must have a CD (common denominator) – make them using equivalent fractions. Add or subtract the numerators. Keep the same denominator. Simplify answer (mix and reduce).

BORROWING from Whole Numbers
Note! You can’t take somethin’ from nothin’ So what do you do? Rename the whole number to show a fraction. (Borrow a ONE and disguise it!)
