1. How do we solve linear inequalities? Do Now: What do you remember about solving quadratic inequalities?

2. What is an inequality? An inequality is a comparison between two things, that tells us which quantity is greater. Solving these problems is very similar to solving linear equations. Remember, inequalities have more than one answer.

3. How do we solve them? The first thing we need to do is get all of the variables on one side of the inequality, and all of the constants on the other. Once this is done, we divide both sides by the coefficient of the variable to get a final answer. REMEMBER!!! If the coefficient is negative, then when we multiply, we need to flip the inequality.

4. Example 3x + 1 > –5 3x > –6 x > –2
