Ozone in our Atmopshere By Jin-In Choi & Robert Brandt

The Inspiration for this PowerPoint was a man named John Cohn who recently participated in a television show called “The Colony” who was able to create Ozone in order to purify water. Background Information to Ozone

To Prove this was possible, Dr. Tom Mackin, an engineer / technology analyst said: “Ozone, is a highly reactive unstable form of oxygen that can be used to kill bacteria and other microbes in water. Ozone molecules can form in several different ways, one of which is when high electrical discharge passes through the air, like lightning.”

The Strengths of Ozone Ozone is a much better oxidizing chemical than the standard O 2 Ozone will actually oxidize several metals to their highest oxidation state. Ozone is a very toxic chemical which, at 10-50 km above sea level can cause respiratory illness Oxygen, even as a gas is toxic. Normally, patients who are lacking oxygen will be given oxygen tanks for breathing purposes. If an excess of oxygen is taken in a patient, the results end up to be puking and sometimes lung damage. Ozone, is much worse with small concentrations leading to either permanent lung injury or death.

The Weaknesses of Ozone Unfortunately, the chemical build of Ozone breaks down into Oxygen gas very quickly and therefore, cannot be transported, but instead made at the lab. Several chemicals are able to break up Ozone into oxygen gas amongst other chemicals such as Carbon Monoxide from most vehicles. NASA’s predictions for the upcoming years of Ozone in the Ozone layer

The Ozone Cycle

The Heat in the stratosphere was formed by the heat of Ultraviolet rays being turned into heat, and the reactions of Oxygen molecules. Ozone is formed in the stratosphere when a single atom of Oxygen merges with Oxygen gas at a diatomic state which then becomes Ozone and the cycle continues Recently, some of the Oxygen molecules have formed with other chemicals, such as CO 2
