14. Warm air _____ and cool air ______. RisesSinks
17
15. True or False? Air pressure increases the higher you go in altitude. False
18
16. Hurricanes come off of the ______. Ocean
19
17. True or False? In a high pressure system, air pressure is greatest closest to the center. True

22
20. Circle one. Low pressure systems flow clockwise or counterclockwise. Counterclockwise
23
21. Circle one. Low pressure systems bring clear skies or stormy weather. Stormy weather
24
22. True or False? Large bodies of water affect weather. True
25
23. Earth’s weather is primarily caused by _________. Uneven heating of the earth’s surface. convection currents
26
24. ________ is thermal energy that is transferred by touching. Conduction
27
25. Convection currents heat ______ and _______. Gases and liquid.
28
Continue taking notes on the back of your quiz...
29
Thermal energy is transferred through Convection Convection Conduction Conduction Radiation Radiation
30
Warm air is less dense.
31
Another name for elevation is________. Altitude
32
The higher the altitude the less the air pressure
33
There are two main factors that decide what air pressure we feel. #1 = Altitude: how high up in the atmosphere you are.
34
Oxygen is heavier than Nitrogen, so it sinks to the bottom of the atmosphere. That means that the lower you are, the more weight is pushing on your head!
35
This also means that the higher your altitude, the less oxygen there will be to breathe! (This is why people take oxygen tanks when climbing Mt. Everest)
36
So... why do our ears and bags of chips pop when going up a hill? It is because we are used to getting pushed on by the pressure of the air.
37
High Pressure (cold)Low Pressure (warm) To equalize the amount of pressure, oxygen will move to evenly distribute it. We can see and feel the oxygen moving...
38
Study this quiz, your notes and review and you will do great!
