Active & Passive Voice Voice is the form of a verb that shows whether the subject is performing the action. There are two types of voice: active and passive.

Active Voice In the active voice, the subject of the sentence performs the action. Laura found a gold bracelet. The virus on the software made our computer system crash. Sarah returned the book to the library. Mandy closed her eyes while she jumped off the diving board.

Passive Voice In the passive voice, the subject of the sentence is the receiver of the action. A gold bracelet was found by Laura. Our computer system was disabled by the virus. The book was returned to the library by Sarah. Bob’s resignation letter was written hastily.
