CHILDHOOD Born: 20 July 1919 Auckland New Zealand.
Died:11 January 2008 (aged 88) Auckland New Zealand. Grow Up: Moved from Auckland to Tuakua (South of Auckland) in 1920 after his father who served at Gallipoli had gotten land there. Full name: Edmund Percival Hillary. School: Edmund learned at Tuakau Primary school and then Auckland Grammar school. He finished primary school 2 years early, but didn't do very well at high school. At first he was smaller than the other students that were there and felt very shy, so he felt safe with his books and often thought of a life filled with adventure.

FAMILY Parents: Percival Augustus Hillary (Father) Gertrude Hillary Nee' Clark (Mother). Siblings: Older bother: Rex. Married to: Louise Mary Rose in children (2 daughters 1 son)- Peter (1954-Now). Sarah (1955-Now). Belinda ( ). In 1975 his wife and youngest daughter died in a plane crash. In 1989 Edmund remarried to June Mulgrew they remained married until he died

ACCOMPLISHMENTS Strengths: Mountaineering while in secondary school, making his first major climb in 1939, reaching the summit of Mount Ollivier. Edmund served in the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) as a navigator during the second world war. He is on the New Zealand five dollar note. History of what he did: He was the first New Zealander and person to climb Mount Everest in 1953, along with Nepalese and mountaineer Tenzing Norway. they were part of the ninth British expedition to Everest, led by John Hut. Hillary was named by time as one of the 100 most influential people of the 20th century. As part of the commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition, he reached the south pole overland in 1958, he also reached the North pole making him the first person to reach both poles and the summit of Mount Everest.

END OF LIFE Edmund died on the 11 January 2008 by Myocardial infarction
