10 World War I Why did it last so long? -1014-1918 -The war started in July, to rally up support, people were told that it will be over by Christmas.

11 World War I Purpose of trenches - to hide -not to get killed right-a-way -did not change much for 3-4 years

12 World War I How young were the recruits? - More than 9 million combatants were killed -British – over 5.3 ft tall, between 18-38 -Thousands of “boy soldiers” were killed, because realistically no-one had the time to verify that the people enlisting were truly 18 -Patriotic feelings were high and many 15 yr. olds joined.

14 World War I How did it affect the world forever? -At first in America, it was called the European war. No-one knew how many would get drawn into it. All of the world’s greatest economic powers at that time got tangled into this on opposite sides. -Deep resentment
