2.  Proverbs 3:11-12 -- My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline and do not resent his rebuke, because the LORD disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.

3.  Discipline  NT – PAIDEIA –to chastise, educate, train, correct, discipline  OT – MUSAR – reproof, warning, correction, instruction.

4.  Often it is education  Sometimes gentle correction  Sometimes rebuke  Sometimes punishment

5.  Proverbs 13:24 -- He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him.

6.  Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far from him.

7.  Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish him with the rod, he will not die. Punish him with the rod and save his soul from death.

8.  Proverbs 13:1 -- A wise son heeds his father's instruction, but a mocker does not listen to rebuke.  Proverbs 17:10 -- A rebuke impresses a man of discernment more than a hundred lashes a fool.  How God disciplines depends on the person and the degree of the crime.

13.  All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful ; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness.
