1 Soldier Rations

2 Union: -Hardtack (flour, salt, water) -Salted pork, bacon or beef (skillygalee) -Cornmeal (ground, dry corn) -In lesser amounts: molasses, salt/pepper, coffee/tea, rice/hominy (washed corn), dried beans/peas, vegetables, milk

3 Confederates: -Cornmeal -Salted beef or bacon -Dried peas -In lesser amounts: molasses, hardtack, tea/coffee (union blockades=no coffee beans, used things like peanuts, okra, wheat, etc.), sugar, peanuts, fresh vegetables

4 -Cans were difficult to transport -Meat was often rough, rotten, or had too many preservatives -North was better off in terms of receiving food because transportation/distribution networks had already been established
