2
What you will learn! How to write fractions in simplest form.
3
Equivalent fractions Simplest form
4
What you really need to know! Fractions that have the same value are called equivalent fractions. A fraction is in simplest form when the GCF of the numerator and denominator is 1.
6
12 45 Example 1: Write in simplest form:= 2 2 3 3 3 5 415
7
40 60 Example 2: Write in simplest form:= 2 2 2 5 2 2 3 5 23
8
Example 3: Two notes form a perfect fifth if the simplified fraction of the frequencies of the notes equals ¾. If note D = 294 Hertz and note G = 392 Hertz, do they form a perfect fifth?
9
294 ÷ 2 = 147 ÷ 7 = 21 392 ÷ 2 = 196 ÷ 7 = 28 21 ÷ 7 = 3 28 ÷ 7 = 4 Yes. It is a perfect fifth!
