Mt. Merapi: The Mountain of Fire
Mt Merapi is a stratovolcano located in the center of the largest island and only a few miles away from the capitol city of Jakarta. It has been active for 10,000 years and is still active with its last eruption being in 2012 and a very deadly one in 2010. Roughly 100,000 villagers still live at the base and continue to return after each eruption. Most likely due to the fertile soil.
