Starting in January 2014 students will be expected to bring in their own iPad devices. If students want to bring in iPads prior to this they are welcome. It is recommended that families purchase a highly durable case (ie. Otterbox or Trident) iPads will be taken home and brought to school every day. Families are to purchase all apps required by the school. After the initial app purchases, purchases will be limited to less the RM200/year.

Using Sketch to annotate websites for useful information. Following on from persuasive writing students use imovie to design a persuasive video fro their cause. In PE students record with SlowPro and work together to assess their learning. At the end of a lesson the teacher uses Socrative to assess pupils learning informally and without other students knowing. After creating a Google document students work on a homework piece together in real time. When doing a science experiment students follow the teachers instructions through a video. Taking their time and reviewing steps they didn’t understand In Explain Everything students explain a concept they have become experts at and then share learning with others.

Children will be bringing their iPads home every day and during holidays. Children may be set homework that will needed to be completed via the iPad (this will not happen till 2014 for Y6-9). The VLE is fully accessible by iPads and extra work or research will be placed on there for student access.

Your children are given access to a device that has access to the internet. As such you need to make sure your children are educated to be successful online citizens: Your children should not be using iPads in their bedrooms. iPads should be kept at night and charged outside of their room. If children access the internet make sure they realise to stay safe and turn off the iPad and inform you if they see anything inappropriate. I would recommend children ask permission before downloading any apps. Make children understand that you and any teachers are allowed to view all content on the iPad at ANY time.
20
Remember that as a parent you are responsible for your child’s iPad usage at home. Talk with your child and agree rules and consequences for use of the iPad at home – homework in Term 1! Possible things to consider with your child: How much lesuire time can I have on the iPad? What do I do if I want an app? Where can I use the iPad? Where is the iPad stored/charged? Importance of respecting your parents wishes.
