3 Plessy V. Ferguson Summary
Read the first two paragraphs of the Plessy V. Ferguson Supreme Court decision. In pairs, summarize both paragraphs on separate GIST activity sheets.

4 Plessy V. Ferguson A Supreme Court Case which tested the legality of racial segregation. The Court ruled that segregation did not violate the rights of black citizens if accommodations were “separate but equal”.

Many African Americans moved north around 1900 to escape racism, called “The Great Migration” They found similar discrimination. Segregated schools, and neighborhoods. Workplace discrimination. NYC race riots.

Mexican discrimination Work discrimination on the railroads, mining and agriculture. Debt Peonage - forced labor to pay off a debt. Chinese Exclusion Act (1882) In California, Chinese immigration was halted because of work competition.
