2. What is MDC? Formative Assessment Lessons Aligned with Mathematics Content Standards Utilizes the Mathematics Practice Standards Consistent with Danielson’s Framework for Teaching

3. Formative Assessment Lessons Teachers will learn to effectively implement formative assessment lessons in their classrooms. The formative assessment lessons will provide teachers with “assessment for learning” strategies.

4. What are Formative Assessment Lessons? – Well engineered to uncover misconceptions – Available on MAP website – Complete with Teacher Resources – Scripted – Aligned to CCSS/PA Core – Promote the development of students attainment of the Math Practice Standards

5. Two Types of MDC Lessons Concept Development Lessons Are designed to reveal and develop students’ conceptions, and misconceptions of significant mathematical ideas and how these connect to their other knowledge Problem Solving Lessons Are designed to assess and develop students’ capacity to apply their mathematical flexibly to non-routine unstructured problems, both from the real world and within pure mathematics

6. District Participation/Training 2 day training and 3 half day follow up support Training Dates: Jan 13, 14 (Full days) Follow up dates: Feb 18, Mar 26, May 7 (Half days) Expectations of participants: Implement MDC Lessons in their classrooms Serve as district resources for future implementation District Participation 2-3 teachers from each district. We suggest they are from the same building and grade level. Target Grades 6-8

7. Funding/Expenses  Funded by Race to the Top Grant awarded to PA Dept of Education in 2011.  There is no cost to district to participate in the training.  The substitutes expenses will be covered not to exceed $100.  You will be notified when the registration information is posted on the IU website.
