This book is filled with resources that help students achieve mathematical standards. There are hands- on manipulatives, learning to draw pictures of the steps, and transitions from the pictoral representations to the instruction. Witzel, B. S., & Riccomini, P. J. (2010). Solving Equations. Pearson.  Above reading level (college)  Because this is a college level book, I could use it to find new ideas on how to teach the material and find new manipulatives to use.

 This book relates math to everyday situations, and there are real-life activities to go along with it. This book develops mathematical literacy and builds a solid foundation for future study.  Mathematics, C. f. (2008). Mathematics in Action: Algebraic, Graphical, and Trigonometric Problem Solving. Addison Wesley.  On level (7 th grade)  Because this book has many activities and problems that relate to real-life situations, I could use this book to have students work independently or alone on problems, after the material was taught.

 This book includes activities that gets students engaged in their learning by having them up and moving. They jump, balance, and move to solve equations, as well as hunt treasure and explore magic tricks.  Foundation, A. E. (n.d.). Solving Equations A Conceptual Approach. AIMS Education Foundation.  Below, On and Above grade level (grades 6-9)  I would use these book after I have given an overview of the lesson. This will get the students actively participating and having fun, while learning how to solve equations.

 This is a text book used by high school students that goes more in depth on how to solve equations.  Lawson, W., & Nguyen, N. H. (2005). Linear Equations, Inequalities, and Functions. Trafford on Demand.  Above grade level (9 th grade +)  Because this book is above grade level, I would use this book only to find extra problems for the students to solve to practice with.

 This is a study guide that shows students different ways on how to solve problems so they can find the easiest way for them.  Johnson, M., Johnson, T., Johnson, L., McRaine, D., & Johnson, S. (2000). How to Solve Word Problems in Algebra (Proven Techniques From an Expert). McGraw- Hill.  On grade level (7 th grade)  I would use this book in my unit if the students were still having trouble picking out the information from word problems to solve equations.

 This book shows students how to relate linear equations to sea life to analyze their role in the ecosystem.  Baker, L. (2012). Sea Creatures: Solving Equations and Inequalities. Teacher Created Materials.  Below grade level (6 th )  Because this book is slightly below grade level, I would use it for some of the word problems because they get students thinking about real situations, and it helps them to pull them apart to make the equations to solve.

 This article gives students an overview of how to solve equations, by relating it to their previous knowledge. It also shows them step by step how to do it, and allows them to practice problems at the end.  Stapel, E. (2012). Solving One Step Linear Equations. Retrieved October 22, 2013, from Purplemath: http://www.purplemath.co m/modules/solvelin.htm  On grade level (7 th )  I would use this in my lesson after I have given a brief overview of how to solve equations. I would allow students to read this article on their own and take notes, and then practice problems on their own at the end of the article.
