4 EducationPlanner.org What's Your Learning Style? The Results Veronique Reaves's scores: Auditory: 20% Visual: 55% Tactile: 25% You are a Visual learner! Check out the information below, or view all of the learning styles.view all of the learning styles Visual If you are a visual learner, you learn by reading or seeing pictures. You understand and remember things by sight. You can picture what you are learning in your head, and you learn best by using methods that are primarily visual. You like to see what you are learning. As a visual learner, you are usually neat and clean. You often close your eyes to visualize or remember something, and you will find something to watch if you become bored. You may have difficulty with spoken directions and may be easily distracted by sounds. You are attracted to color and to spoken language (like stories) that is rich in imagery. Here are some things that visual learners like you can do to learn better: Sit near the front of the classroom. (It won't mean you're the teacher's pet!) Have your eyesight checked on a regular basis. Use flashcards to learn new words. Try to visualize things that you hear or things that are read to you. Write down key words, ideas, or instructions. Draw pictures to help explain new concepts and then explain the pictures. Color code things. Avoid distractions during study times. Remember that you need to see things, not just hear things, to learn well. EducationPlanner.org is a public service of the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA). 5  Struggle with spoken directions › Directions or instructions need to be written out clearly in step by step fashion for a visual learner to see and follow › Street names, addresses, and exit numbers are harder for visual learners to follow; they do better with landmarks and visual symbols that they can recall if they see them  Noise distractions › Noises distract a visual learner who is trying to read, study, or concentrate  Difficulty following spoken lectures › Without the use of visuals, it is difficult to focus on spoken lecture › Visual learners need to see what they are learning either in writing or picture/graphic symbol

6  Use books and visual aids to reinforce lessons  Highlighters and color coding tools help to point out important information  Flashcards aid in memory retention  Quiet environments allow visual learners to think and study making it easier to recall information  Whiteboards can be used to write on or draw illustrations during lectures giving a visual learner something to look at and remember  Encourage students to write information down which also provides a visual for the student to follow  Information provided by: www.ehow.com/education www.ehow.com/education

10  Visual Learners need to see what they are learning  They use pictures to provide illustrations or symbols to represent concepts  Colors and visual aids attract visual learners and keep their attention during lectures  It is difficult to keep a visual learners interests in a lecture only setting  Combining techniques, methods and different educational tools is the best way to ensure that all learning styles are included during lessons or lectures  Having students participate in learning style assessments is a good way to gain insight into which style of learning best fits them
