Downstream traceability for pet food produced and delivered Upstream traceability for raw materials used How? 1)To protect animal and human health 2)To enable efficient withdrawal or recall of products 3)To provide information on quality problems 4)To comply with EU legislation Why traceability?

7 4.1 Registration and approval Registration and/or approval is compulsory Manufacturers shall notify the Competent Authority with a view to registration and/or approval Under R183/2005 Pet food plants must be registered, except those that must be approved Pet food plants using vitamin A, vitamin D, copper and selenium as additives must be approved Under R1774/2002 Pet food plants using ABPs must be approved

8 4.2 Traceability requirements 4.3 Product identification 4.2 System of documentation to ensure traceability Keep samples and records of each batch of finished products (≥ 2 years) 4.3 Relevant information: Suppliers – name, address, batch, quantity, delivery date, approval/registration number Production – nature, quantity, date and batch Distribution – name and address of delivery

9 4.4 Product recall System of registering/processing complaints in place System of recall in place Recalled products will only be put back into circulation after a quality-control reassessment The manufacturer is responsible to inform the Competent Authority in case of a recall The recall system shall be regularly tested
