14 Qu Yuan and his identity as a poet Qu Yuan is regarded as the first author of verse in China to have his name associated to his work, since prior to that time, poetic works were not attributed to any specific authors. He is considered to have initiated the so-called sao style of verse, which is named after his work Li Sao, in which he abandoned the classic four-character verses used in poems of Shi Jing and adopted verses with varying lengths.

15 The school motto of CTGU is from Qu Yuan's Li Sao " 路漫漫其修远兮,吾将上下而求索 " “Although the road is endless and faraway, I still want to pursue the truth in the world”

16 Zong Zi 粽子 Qu Yuan drowned on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month in 277 BC. Since ancient times, Chinese people threw into the water dumpling made of glutinous rice wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves on the day. Therefore the fish would eat the rice rather than the hero poet. This later on turned into the custom of eating Zong Zi.
