WHAT DOES THE TRADITIONAL SCHOOL LOOK LIKE? Strong emphasis on the core subjects of reading, spelling, writing and math The teaching of self-discipline and strong study habits A family environment that is inviting to all

Good stability of school population throughout the year The use of classical literature integrated with the Open Court reading program Lippencott’s “Beginning to Read, Write and Listen” builds a strong literacy foundation in kindergarten Integration of higher-level critical thinking skills starting in early grades (problem solving)

A highly structured classroom environment with strong discipline, quality homework and solid preparation for middle school A full time Spanish teacher and Science Lab Teacher across all grade levels Instruction that helps meet the needs of all students (support and enrichment)

WHAT DOES THE TRADITIONAL SCHOOL LOOK LIKE? Intervention and extension programs through Math Superstars, Accelerated Reader, Math Acceleration Lab, Talent Development, Odyssey of the Mind, tutoring, and various clubs (including band) Strong parent/school communication through phone calls, notes, email, web pages, weekly reports, conferences and newsletters, 6-week report cards

WHAT DOES THE TRADITIONAL SCHOOL LOOK LIKE? Emphasis on high expectations for appropriate behavior, student safety, stringent enforcement of the CMS behavior code An expectation of parent involvement to support teachers on a daily basis Patriotism, Character, Integrity and Citizenship are modeled and engrained in daily routines and discussions

WHAT WILL I SEE AT ETES? A traditional feeling school that has been kept in tact with a 10 million dollar renovation in 2003 A highly qualified and caring staff, with 80%+ with 4 or more years experience, and a low turnover rate. High expectations for character, social behavior and academics A smaller school population compared to district averages

WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM THE PTA? ETES has a strong PTA organization that is dedicated to continues school improvement, a warm and caring family environment, constant support of teachers, and creating an inviting organization that embraces diversity in its membership

WILL MY CHILD BE CHALLENGED AND GET THE SUPPORT THEY NEED AT ETES? The ETES staff will work with students through our Talent Development program, through differentiation during class time, individualized help, pull-out support, and parent tutors to not only extend knowledge, but to also help those that may be struggling academically

OTHER KEY INFO ABOUT ETES Our school day goes from 9:15-3:30 We have approximately 540 students A diverse population of children and staff ETES offers a before school and after school program We are a state of North Carolina Honor School of Excellence

The CMS Lottery Process To be put on our wait list you MUST choose ETES as your first choice on your application You must have your child enrolled for CMS schools by December 15 th to be eligible for the lottery The last day to submit lottery applications is on January 31 st You must turn in both your lottery application and a signed parent Traditional Compact to be part of the lottery Results will be mailed home in early March 2007
