What defines a non-traditional student? Not a recent high school graduate. A parent with dependents to care for. Works full-time or part time. Financially independent. Attends college full or part-time. Might not have a high school diploma. Might have some college credit to transfer in.

Many perspectives for a Non-Traditional Student… According to a 2002 National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) report, nontraditional students make up 73 percent of all students enrolled in undergraduate programs, and 39 percent of all undergraduate students are 25 years or older. The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) acknowledges there is no precise definition for non-traditional student, but suggests that part-time status and age are common elements in most definitions. In a 1996 study the NCES included anyone who satisfies at least one of the following as a non-traditional student [1] :National Center for Education Statistics [1] 1.
