NEW YORK AND NEW JERSEY Origins Created by Dutch of New Netherland in 1660 Fur trade between native Americans and settlers Came from Sweden, France, Portugal Dutch were rivals with English

NEW YORK 1664, England takes over Dutch territory in the New world New Amsterdam renamed as New York after the English Duke James of York. Duke of York

NEW JERSEY Origin Established 1665. split off from New York. At First was a Proprietary Colony: created by a grant of land from a monarch to an individual or family Created into a Royal Colony : a Colony controlled directly by the English King.
