2 Why are you here? Overview of what we will be learning this year. To find out about class rules and rewards. How you can help your child. Chance to ask me some questions.

3 School/Class Rules We work quietly and safely at all times We listen carefully and do as we are told the first time We keep our hands feet and objects to ourselves We are kind and polite to others We take care of our own and other peoples belongings

5 What will we be learning this year? Term 1: The First World War Term 2: Frozen Lands Term 3: Ancient Egypt Term 4: Anglo-Saxons and Settlements Term 5: Rivers Term 6: Romans Areas for each subject can be found on the Class 4 page on the school website.

6 The New Curriculum Expectations in Maths in Year 4. Recall multiplication and division facts for multiplication tables up to 12 × 12 Read Roman numerals to 100.

7 Home Learning In year 4, Children should be doing at least 15-20 minutes per night home learning (including reading). Homework will be set on a Friday. Homework should be handed in on a Thursday. Homework will include: Handwriting Spellings Maths and times tables Topic work If homework isn’t handed in, then your child will have to stay in at lunchtime on Friday (unless a note is given from parent)..

8 Reading Your child will be given a suitable reading book based on their reading level. They should take this book home everyday. Once your child has completed a book, they are to complete a reading review then they will be able to choose a new reading book. All children will read as part of a group in our weekly guided reading sessions. Mrs Pilgrim will hear those children who have a lower reading age than their chronological age on a regular basis.

9 Reading There will be time for independent reading after lunch on a daily basis. Free read Friday. Children should be reading for at least 10 minutes per day at home.

11 How can you help? Help your child to learn their times tables and spellings. Check your child is completing their homework and sign homework diaries each week. Daily reading.

12 What to do if you have any concerns. Speak to myself (After school in the playground or you can make an appointment to see me after school) Ask to meet with Mrs Love, Mrs Horrocks or with the FLO
