3 Robert Burns was born on 25th January 1759. © British Council 2014

4 Robert Burns grew up here in Alloway with his family. His father built this house. It had two rooms in it. We can still visit this house today. We call it Burns Cottage. © British Council 2014

6 There were seven children in Robert’s family. They were very poor. © British Council 2014

7 His dad was called William. He was a farmer. Robert had to help his dad on the farm by turning the soil. It was very difficult as he didn’t have a tractor to help him. © British Council 2014

8 When he grew up, he married a girl called Jean Armour. © British Council 2014

9 He wrote many poems which were published in lots of different books. © British Council 2014

10 He died in 1796 of a weak heart. We celebrate his life on 25th January every year. © British Council 2014

11 People celebrate by eating haggis and reading his famous poems. © British Council 2014
