6 Description of Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is the health profession with expertise in movement and exercise prescription throughout the lifespan across the health spectrum. Physiotherapy involves specific interventions to individuals and populations where movement and function are, or may be, threatened by illness, ageing, injury, pain, disability, disease, disorder or environmental factors. Such interventions are designed and prescribed to develop, restore and maintain optimal health. Physiotherapy is integral to all spheres of health and well-being such as promotion, prevention, habilitation and rehabilitation and encompasses physical, psychological, emotional and social factors.  Physiotherapy involves the interaction of the physiotherapist with the client including his/her family, care givers and relevant other health professionals and communities Physiotherapy is a science-based health discipline. This is the description WCPT Europe has offered for ESCO and which ENPHE’s ESCO Working Group has been able to comment.

8 Physiotherapist Assistant
Physiotherapist Assistants support and work under the sole direction and/or supervision of Physiotherapists or Advanced Physiotherapists. Physiotherapists and Advanced Physiotherapists direct and delegate specific aspects of treatment and patient management to the Physiotherapist Assistant.  Physiotherapist Assistants work within defined contexts using agreed treatment protocols and procedures. Physiotherapist Assistants are accountable for their actions; however Physiotherapists / Advanced Physiotherapists retain overall responsibility for clients.

9 Physiotherapist Physiotherapists are autonomous health care professionals who assess, diagnose, plan, treat and evaluate clients and are responsible for their own actions. Physiotherapists promote the participation of people in society by working independently to develop, maintain and/or restore clients’ health, movement capability, physical activity and functional ability throughout the lifespan using evidence-based approaches that encompass physical, psychological, emotional, and social factors. Physiotherapists use evidence based approaches and practice within their scope of practice and within professional codes of conduct.  Physiotherapists have completed an education programme, which is recognised by the state to practice physiotherapy.

10 Advanced Physiotherapist
Advanced Physiotherapists are Physiotherapists who apply specific advanced competences (knowledge, skills and attitudes) within the scope of physiotherapy. Advanced Physiotherapists have additional skills to address the more complex decision-making processes manage risk in unpredictable contexts that require new strategic approaches.  Advanced Physiotherapists may have completed an advanced programme of studies or be able to demonstrate the ability to work at an advanced level, focusing on a specific area of clinical practice, education, research, or professional management among others
