Presentation on theme: "A word that takes the place of a noun"— Presentation transcript:

1 A word that takes the place of a noun
Pronouns A word that takes the place of a noun

2 Nouns ? A noun is: a person like “Luke” or “Boy” a place
like “Ohio” or “school” a thing like “desk” or “yard” Or an idea like “love” or “feelings”

3 A pronoun replaces a regular noun
…but remember, a pronoun IS still a noun - it is just a specific kind of a noun

4 List of pronouns… that their theirs them themselves these they this those Us we what whatever which whichever who whoever whom whomever whose you your yours yourself yourselves neither no one nobody none nothing one one another other others our ours ourselves several she some somebody someone something he / her /hers herself him / himself his I it its itself little many me mine more most much my myself all another any anybody anyone anything both each each other either everybody everyone everything few

5 How do they work? Without pronouns, sentences would just not sound right. Example: Luke went to Luke’s house and Luke turned off Luke’s TV after Luke watched Luke’s TV. Pronouns make this better: Luke went to his house and he turned off his TV after he watched it.

6 Can you find (identify) the Pronouns?
He went to his mom’s store. HE HIS It was a good place to stay. IT No one was there. No one There
