What is a blog Blog is short for weblog It’s a personal and public journal or diary on the web A way for kids to connect to their global peers It’s the wave of the future and a new way to communicate

Where Did Blogs Come From? Blogging began in the mid 1990’s. It is not clear who the very first blogger was. The art of blogging took hold of the technological world in 1999. The very first blogs were Internet web tours. Initially thought of as diaries or online journals, blogs have evolved into the latest web content.

Blogs are the Latest Craze in Communication Blogging is a connection to the world. There are all types of blogs: –Personal Blog - shares your thoughts and ideas with the world. –Business Blog - a way to keep in touch with customers, suppliers, or prospective customers. –Photo Blog - online photo album to share photos with family and friends. –Family Blog - helps family stay in touch by posting family news. –Community Blog - team schedules, meeting updates, and information for community members.

Benefits of Blogging for Kids Responsibility and Commitment - daily posts and regular updates require children to be disciplined and responsible. Communication - increased communication with friends and relatives. Technology - exposure to innovative Internet technologies that help them with communication skills.

Continued Benefits Improved Writing Skills - when presented with an audience, children will want to present their best work. Improved Editing Skills - editing daily entries will help children learn how to present their ideas clearly and professionally. Improved Spelling - automated spell-checking helps children be aware of spelling errors when they occur. Typing - gets children familiar with keyboards at a young age quickly making them proficient typists.
