2 A Note on Resources. There are lots of homework tasks set out in the following slides. Before you begin look at the final slide – Resources. This slide will direct you to books in the library, books in your classrooms and websites you may find helpful. If you discover other websites or books when you are working on the homework tasks please let your teacher know – we will add your discovery!

3 The Qur’an Use Discovering Religions: Islam by Sue Penney. P10 – 11. From your reading create a quiz on the Qur’an of 7 questions at least. Write each question you create. Write the answers to each of your questions also! For one of your questions write an answer that is wrong – try to catch your teacher out! See if they notice.

4 Worship in the Mosque Your teacher will issue you with a blank postcard. Imagine you are travelling in a Muslim country and have visited a mosque. It can be a great, famous mosque or a simple village one. Complete your postcard. It should include a drawing of the building or people and a description of what you saw and/or your feelings about your visit.

5 Islam in the News Over the next 6 – 8 weeks when you are studying Islam there will be lots of times when stories about Islam will be in the news. Either:- Keep a record of times when Islam was in the news – at least six times. List the dates and a very brief note of what each story was about. Or, Pick one story and explain a some detail what it was about. You should also briefly add your own views on the story.

6 On Pilgrimage To Makkah Imagine you had the time and the money and the companionship to go on a journey of a lifetime. Your journey must have a special purpose. It cannot just be a holiday. It should have a special meaning for you. You will only be able to do this once in your lifetime. Create an outline for a board game that gives an idea of the dangers and rewards of your journey. This should be in the form of a snakes and ladders board but only include a max of 20 boxes rather than 100 – unless you are very keen!

7 Ramadan You are going to write a reflective essay. This means that you will think about the idea you are given and write about your thoughts. You should have studied Ramadan in class. In your essay you should try to include as many of the words below as possible. Starving people Food Poor Self –Discipline Allah Rich Community Water Mosque Grateful Daylight Month

8 Being a Muslim in Scotland Today Use Discovering Religions. Islam p42 & 43. You will find copies in the library and in all RME rooms. Write bullet point notes on each of the following:- Religion Dress Relationships Medical Treatment Complete Tasks 1 -3 in the Things To Do section. Google “Mosques in Edinburgh and Glasgow” and note what you find.
