God instructed him to move to Canaan God promised that if Abraham moved he would bless him, his children and help him build a nation Possibly around 2000 BC

Covenant A contract or covenant was struck with God
A covenant was like an agreement or contract The covenant was if Abraham and his people worshiped one God only, he would look after him and his people Belief in one God – Monotheistic This was different from all other cultures at the time

Abraham God told Abraham he would have a son with his wife Sarah when he was 100 Had a son Isaac - descendants of Jesus Had another son names Ishmael to the maid Ishmael- descendants are the Arabs God told Abraham to build an altar and sacrifice his son that intervened at the last minute

Ended up selling Joseph into slavery Joseph ended up being transported to Egypt Pharaoh heard stories of Joseph’s dreams and how accurate his interpretations were He asked Joseph to predict his dream of 7 fat cows and 7 skinny cows Joseph, with God’s help, said it meant that Egypt would have 7 years of good luck followed by seven years of bad Joseph helped the Pharaoh store food

The Least you need to know….
At the time, there were many ancient cultures like the Assyrians and Egyptians who believed in and worshipped many Gods God chose Abraham and made an agreement with him This agreement is called a Covenant This was important because the Israelites became one of the first cultures to worship one God God promised he would look after Abraham and the Israelites if they were faithful to God
