Mass vs. Weight
2
IN THE BLUE CORNER… WEIGHT!!! IN THE RED CORNER… MASS!!!
3
Create a T-chart: Mass vs. weight mass weight
4
ROUND 1
5
WEIGHT IS THE FORCE OF GRAVITY ON A MASS
MASS IS HOW MUCH ‘STUFF’ SOMETHING HAS Place in your t-chart
6
ROUND 2
7
WEIGHT IS MEASURED IN NEWTONS MASS IS MEASURED IN KILOGRAMS
8
ROUND 3
9
WEIGHT CHANGES DEPENDING ON GRAVITY
MASS REMAINS CONSTANT
10
Double check: These are the questions you should have answered in your t-chart
What is it? What units is it measured in? Can it change? What is it? What units is it measured in? Can it change? MASS WEIGHT

You are now finished with your notes.
The next slides will help you with your homework. Your homework is on the back of yesterdays gravity homework. When you have completed the homework turn it into the basket, then watch the videos and complete your reflection (on the last slide) If you get done before the end of class make sure you have all of yesterdays notes completed, today’s notes and your reflection because this will be graded tomorrow.

Weight = mass x gravity Gravity on Earth = 10ms-1
Calculating weight Weight = mass x gravity Gravity on Earth = 10ms-1

Jeff’s Space Journey
14
Jeff’s starts on Earth Jeff’s mass is 300 Kg
The gravity on Earth is 10 ms-1 If weight = mass x gravity Then Jeff’s weight on Earth = 300 x 10 On Earth Jeff weighs 3000 N !! Jeff’s starts on Earth
15
Jeff’s mass is 300 Kg
16
Jeff’s goes to the Moon Jeff’s mass is 300 Kg
The gravity on the Moon is 1.6 ms-1 Jeff’s goes to the Moon
17
Jeff’s goes to Mars Jeff’s mass is 300 Kg
The gravity on Mars is 3.7 ms-1 Jeff’s goes to Mars
18
Jeff’s goes to Jupiter Jeff’s mass is 300 Kg
The gravity on Jupiter 23 ms-1 Jeff’s goes to Jupiter
19
Jeff’s goes to Saturn Jeff’s mass is 300 Kg
The gravity on Saturn is 9 ms-1 Jeff’s goes to Saturn

When you have completed BOTH sides of the worksheet and watched the videos, turn the worksheet into the basket. Now it is time to reflect on what you have learned the past two days: Reflection: look back at what you have learned the past two days: gravity, mass and weight. In your notebooks write two paragraphs (minimum 4 sentences each) about what you learned. Look back at your notes if you have to. This will be graded!
