Day 3 Virtual Lab and Chemistry Review with an emphasis on PE and KE.

Virtual Lab Lets go to each of these in turn to review and visualize what we learned this week.. Forces and Motion: http://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/ramp- forces-and-motionhttp://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/ramp- forces-and-motion Skate Park: http://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/energy-skate-parkhttp://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/energy-skate-park Projectile Motion: http://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/projectile-motion Friction: http://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/frictionhttp://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/friction Acceleration and velocity game: http://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/maze-game http://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/maze-game

Review Contined Gravity: http://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/gravity-force-labhttp://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/gravity-force-lab Sound: http://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/soundhttp://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/sound Electromagnetic Waves: http://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/radio-waves http://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/radio-waves Generator: http://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/generatorhttp://phet.colorado.edu/en/simulation/generator Download the java script and run the virtual lab. Answer the questions on the next slide

Skate Park Questions Make sure the bar graph option on the right side of the screen is chosen. What happens to the energy as the skater moves from top of the ramp to the bottom? What does not change on the diagram? Now choose the Pie graph option and answer the same questions above. Go on and play with the skater and note what happens at each of the designated points.

Gravity Questions What happens to gravity as you increase mass? What happens to gravity as you change distance? Friction Questions What happens to the heat as friction increases?

Elements Got to the link below and then answer the questions on the following slides. http://www.classzone.com/books/earth_science/terc/ content/investigations/es0501/es0501page01.cfm

Element Questions/Tasks Step One- What is an element? Step Two- When you look at a thing that is made of a single element a penny made of copper: We could look at the penny in smaller and smaller sections until we are looking at the copper at the level of the atom. Dram each magnification level. Step three: List the three subatomic particles that make up atoms. Give the mass and charge of each one. Step 4: Fill in the information for elements on your chart. Record the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons for balanced atoms of each element indicated.

Questions Step 5 Which particle controls what element an atom is? Describe how you used the model to come up with your answer. What do you get when you change the number of neutrons in the nucleus? What controls the "weight" of an atom? Describe how you used the model to come up with your answer. Try to cluster the electrons together or move them into another level. Describe the behavior of the model electrons. What do you get if the number of protons and electrons in your model is not equal?

Periodic table link Step 6: Fill out the chart for these elements: oxygen, neon, aluminum, iron, gold.

Periodic Table Go to the following link: http://www.ptable.com/http://www.ptable.com/ Where can all the elements of the periodic table that are gas at room temperature be found? What are the main organizing features of the periodic table? Where are the metals, nonmetals, noble gases etc.?

Enjoy the Rest of Your Break STUDY
