Great Railway Journeys of our time - PALET It’s a mystery train (and a badly expanded metaphor) Andy Lloyd
2
We’re going far away, we’re going for a ride the PALET project has got a plan if you just come inside Angehrn’s phases of change adoption AwarenessInterest Appraisal / trial Adoption
3
Stakeholder Engagement Some staff moved straight to the front of the train and wanted to learn to drive; Some waited patiently at the stations up ahead; Some stayed in the carriages in 2 nd or 3 rd class; … and some got left on the platform.
4
The change journey Creating awareness and interest among the passengers on the train was not difficult to achieve; BUT No-one really knew where the destination was; and We didn’t know how good the quality of the track ahead was; and It was not always clear whether the train had the full support of the stakeholders who owned the track and controlled the signals.
5
The fundamental problem The track that supported the development and approval of new programmes … Ran in a different direction, was of a different gauge, and did not join up with … the track that supported a programme’s operation
6
The Journey STOP
7
Travelogue – the lessons learned The journey can be more interesting than the end point; You must be prepared to end up at a different destination; Make sure all of the technology talks to the other bits; Do not underestimate the complexity and the sheer volume of components that you need to help ensure that the train works and keeps on track; Keep the train companies, the track providers, and all of the different system engineers with you (i.e. don’t ‘privatise’ the railways); Enjoy the ride!

And as for me … I now travel by bike
