3  Prepositions show relationships between nouns or pronouns and other words in a sentence.  Prepositional phrases generally contain the preposition and an object of the preposition. Objects of the preposition MUST be nouns.  example:  In bed ( in, preposition and bed, noun)  To Texas ( to, preposition and Texas, noun)

6 Show spatial relationship or location

7 Example The book is on the table. The dog is behind the closet and the cat is in the closet. The television is in between the dog and the cat. The dog is in front of the picture. Common word: On, in, into, behind, in the corner of, across, opposite, down,

9 Show an exact or a particular time. There are three kinds of prepositions of time. They are At, In and On. 1. We use At for (Clock, Meal, Religious and Festival) Example › We have breakfast at 6 o’clock. › At breakfast they talk a lot. › All my friends come to meet each other at my birthday.

10 2. We use In for (Season, Month, Year, Century, Part of the day...) Example It rains a lot in rainy season. They will come back in June. Bopha gets married in 2007. 3. We use On for (Day, Date...) Example I fly to the USA on Saturday. She makes an appointment with me on the 2 nd of May.

11 When we use the word last, next, every, and this in time expressions, the prepositions at, in, and on is unnecessary. Example: I went to London in last April (incorrect) I went to London last April (correct) He’s coming back on next week (incorrect) He’s coming back next week (correct) I go home at every semester holiday (incorrect) I go home every semester holiday (correct) We’ll call you in this afternoon (incorrect) We’ll call you this afternoon (correct)

13  Show the direction of something or a place.  Example: - He jumped into the river. (into-entering something) - He ran away when he felt that someone was coming toward him. (toward-going that is) - Did you travel all the way from Kuching to attend this conference? (from- the place where it starts) - We are running around the field. (around-in a circular way)
