5. Alcohol abuse Nalaikh Police results before the project: They could prevent 604 accidents and injuries related to alcohol use in 2009 and detected 80.9% more drunken drivers comparing with 2008. Hospital results before the project: Detection in early stage and treatments more than 5 x higher in 2009 than in the years before. But we thought we need to do more with another approach.

Alcohol abuse Nalaikh Police – Health Centre cooperation 1.We build a new sober-up centre with the focus on social problem in stead of crime 2.We train policemen, health workers, social workers and national volunteers to enable them to support the family in the Xoroo. 3.In the morning we collect the family of the alcohol abuser to give them training, advice (and treatment posibilities, when needed) 4.We inform the trained people in the Xoroo for further suppor t

Alcohol abuse Nalaikh Police – Health Centre cooperation 5.We make it possible for family members to call a separate number in case they want advice how to coop with an alcohol abuser, without the risk of being busted 6.The police made a documentary about the sober-up clinic to show : its a clinic, not a prison 7.The police made it possible for alcohol abusers to go there voluntary, without court order The result: The in april 2010 we could send 42 people for their treatment to the clinic end 24 of them are still not drinken and have jobs

Adults don’t talk about these issues with their children and children not with adults, unless they have too! Many teachers involved just give lectures (some times even wrong) and children just listen Children do want to talk with people their own age So well informed students are the best advisers for them

School teams We gave 1 time information about the 2 subjects to about 300 (elderly) students of each school Than we asked them whether they want to participate in such a team From each school we received 30 for the train the trainers training The trainer selected out of them 10 from every school. Together with a young doctor from the health centre and the school doctor or social worker they are now the school team with their own place and materials. 12
