CM220 College Composition II Friday, October 23, 2015 6 Unit 2: Writing Styles & Library Orientation modes of research essays Informative Mode: simply reports information; objective and “report-like.” The Tips/Advice Mode: gives suggestions to a broad audience; while persuasive in nature, it is not specific and focused enough. Persuasive Mode: very assertive, states a specific position on an issue (not on a broad topic), and also persuades the reader to do something specific.

Who can fix it? Why should they fix it? How should they fix it? Why is your plan best? questions to help narrow your focus

Reliable sources can be found in scholarly and professional journals and trade publications. These sources go through a rigorous process of peer-review in which other academic and professional experts review and evaluate the writing for content, integrity and structure.

Search engines (like Google, Yahoo or MSN) are free to anyone with access to the Internet, but there are no review or evaluation standards, and since nearly anyone can publish web pages, the information is not always reliable.GoogleYahooMSN WikipediaWikipedia is NOT scholarly site. Although there are some reputable, scholarly contributors, it is an online encyclopedia that anyone (regardless of credentials) can edit.
