ARE YOU READY???

UNIT #3 PROJECT 2-3 pages 1. What do we mean by “consumerism,” “materialism,” and “conspicuous consumption?” 2. What conclusions can you draw from the spending habits of people based upon their demographics (age, gender, race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status)?

UNIT #3 PROJECT - CONTINUED 3. What evidence do you see that we are living in a consumer-oriented, materialistic culture? Do we buy impulsively or is there more deliberation over what we buy? 4. Do you see evidence that we are truly living in “hard times” based upon how much we are spending, what we are buying, how we are paying for it and such?

UNIT #3 PROJECT - CONTINUED 5. Referencing your outside sources, do you feel that current research on consumer habits is valid? Why or why not? 6. Based upon what you have observed, do you feel there is justification for the government to “bail out” businesses and individuals; to provide unemployment assistance, foreclosure assistance and other forms of assistance? If so, how should determinations be made as to who is really in need of this assistance?

UNIT #3 PROJECT - CONTINUED 2-3 pages Double-spaced #12 font – Times New Roman 1” margins on all sides Separate Cover Page: name, course number, date, unit number, title Separate Reference page (APA format) A minimum of 2 outside, valid, scholarly sources

GLOBALIZATION… …..a socio-economic process in which the constraints of geography on social and economic arrangements recede and in which people become increasingly aware that they live in an interconnected world

DISCUSSION TOPICS Is “globalization” synonymous with “Americanization?” If we are indeed becoming a “global village” with western beliefs, values, norms, and such, what place is there for other nations’ beliefs, customs, traditions, and such? Will these eventually become extinct? Is there a place in the “global village” for traditions, customs, and beliefs that go directly against American values?

THANK YOU FOR ATTENDING! HAVE A GREAT WEEK!
