3. complete subject – includes all the words that tell whom or what the sentence is about
Ex. Tourists of all ages visit the harbor in Baltimore.
simple subject – the main word or words in the complete subject
Ex. Tourists of all ages visit the harbor in Baltimore. They enjoy the busy scene.
A subject often performs the action of a sentence.
Ex. Boats sail across the harbor.

Ex. Tourists are boarding the boat.
simple predicate – the main word or words in the complete predicate
Simple predicates are verbs. They name actions or states of being.
Ex. Ana will take us to the aquarium. It is a popular attraction.

7. Mechanics and Usage: Sentence Fragments

8. A sentence is a group of words that expresses a complete thought.
A complete thought needs both a subject and a predicate.
A sentence that does not have both a subject and a predicate is incomplete. It is a sentence fragment.
