Overview Millions of people have died from HIV/AIDS just in Africa AIDS is one of the most serious epidemics to hit Africa

Examples HIV/AIDS causes 20%of all the deaths in Africa Over 20 million people are infected with HIV in Africa 61% of adults in Africa are infected with HIV/AIDS Ten African countries count for 50% of all infected adults worldwide HIV/AIDS has helped reduce the average life expectancy in Africa down to 40 years 12.3 million children are orphans due to HIV/AIDS related deaths

Causes The use of needles previously used by people infected with HIV/AIDS has helped the spread of the disease The lack of safe sex practices has also help spread the disease

United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) Started a worldwide response against HIV/AIDS Started the mandate for worldwide access to HIV prevention, treatment, care, and support

Solutions Uganda was the first African country to respond the AIDS epidemic Many faiths and colleges have helped fund the aid to HIV/AIDS victims Many medicines have been developed to cure HIV/AIDS but none have worked 100% Some people believe that safe sex practices is the answer to stop the spread of the disease

How you can prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS Always practice safe sex Stay away from blood even if you think it is not infected Never reuse needles
