The Book of Proverbs Chapter 3 Prov 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your Heart, Pt. 6

II. Hindrances to Total (100%) Trust or Faith in the Lord.

A. Dread or Fear. Num 13:32-14:4 Fear leads to wanting to return to some form of prior, false security.

B. Delay or Hesitancy. Ex 4:1 The opinions of opposition are irrelevant to the Lord, and should be to you too.

C. Disobedience. Num 20:8-12 When God’s Word tells us to do one thing, yet we do another, we step outside of His Plan for our lives.

D. Doubt. Mat 14:31 It creates indecision, insecurity, inhibition, instability, indifference, and indecisiveness.

E. Double Minded. James 1:5-8 The split personality filled with cosmic viewpoint while also having some Divine viewpoint. Their life is spent in conflict.

F. Disbelief. 2 Kings 17:14-16 Flat-out unbelief will hinder your desire and will to trust in the Lord and impede your spiritual growth.

G. Distraction. Psa 55:1-8, 22-23 Having your eyes on the problem rather than on God, Occupied with Christ, will cause you to be outside of the Faith Rest life.

It is easy to get distracted by possessions, people, power, positions, popularity, prestige, and personal ambitions. God’s solution to distraction is to seek Him first, Mat 6:33.

H. Drowsiness, Fatigue, or Weakness. Mat 26:36-43.

Instead of operating in faith we take the easy road and serve the creature rather than the creator by placating to our physical desire.

The harm comes, because we are either not receiving something that God desires to give us or we are missing out on an experience to serve Him which will strengthen our souls for the future.

Isa 40:31, “Yet those who wait for (Faith Rest in) the LORD will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.”

If you are facing fatigue or weakness, ask the Lord for strength to do what He is leading you to do and give it your best.

2 Cor 12:9, “And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” …

…Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. … 10b for when I am weak, then I am strong.”

Job 26:2 “What a help you are to the weak! How you have saved the arm without strength!”

Psa 18:2, “The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.”

Weakness may also be a sign of the first stage of Divine Discipline, 1 Cor 11:30, “For this reason many among you are weak and sick, and a number sleep.”

Many times the first stage is a form of self induced misery or the “reap what you sow” principle.

Prov 23:20-21, “Do not be with heavy drinkers of wine, or with gluttonous eaters of meat; For the heavy drinker and the glutton will come to poverty, and drowsiness will clothe one with rags.”

Therefore, sin leads to drowsiness and drowsiness leads to missing out on God’s strength which leads to more sin.

Likewise, you miss out on producing Divine Good which results in blessings and rewards, and instead produce, “wood, hay, straw and rags”, (1 Cor 3:10-15; cf. Rev 19:8)

Eph 5:18, “And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation (a wasteful life style), but be filled with the Spirit.”

“Weakness” is a metaphor for a person’s lack of knowledge of Bible Doctrine and therefore a lack of Faith Rest. Cf. Rom 4:19; 14:2; 1 Cor 8:7-12.

The “strong” spiritually mature believer is one who maximizes Faith Rest in God due to the Balance of Residency in His soul.

He is totally oriented to Bible Doctrine and reality and there is no problem in life that is too great for him.

1. He has his priorities straight: he is inflexible with regard to the essentials (the intake and application of Bible doctrine), and flexible with regard to non ‑ essentials (anything else in life).

2. He can cope with any disaster in life, whether personal or historical.

3. He does not follow any overt mold or pattern but possesses the inner dynamics of Bible doctrine to meet every situation that occurs.

4. He does not let his physical status determine his spiritual walk.

The Faith Rest believer demonstrates the total adequacy of Bible doctrine in his life. Prov 24:5, “ ” The Faith Rest believer demonstrates the total adequacy of Bible doctrine in his life. Prov 24:5, “A wise man is strong, and a man of knowledge increases power.”
