How UK tourism/hospitality programs worked together Higher Education Academy- HSLT HLST and the Olympic Games Londons hosting of the 30th Olympiad in 2012 provided an opportunity to raise the profile of the subjects in our Network. the coaching and sports management capacity required to support growing participation in sport; the provision of facilities and opportunities for active leisure; understanding the needs of tourists travel and tourism management skills essential for the provision of successful events; high quality hospitality facilities and services; our close working relationships with industry and employers and our well established multicultural awareness and international outlook.

Games related tourism / hospitality research now being undertaken in the UK The shared vision among central Government, funders LOCOG and many HEIs is that the 2012 Games present a once- in-a-life time opportunity to create work that will have a genuine legacy Olympic Opportunity

UH Teaching & Learning Funded Project The learning legacy of the future Olympic Games to Enhance the Teaching of Tourism and Sustainable Development ?

Research project 2008/9 Project objectives To identify and maximize the learning opportunities for students that are presented by the 2010 winter and 2012 Olympic and Paralympics games. To co-ordinate an on-line resource base to support the teaching and learning of the impacts of the Olympics through a range of academic subject areas in Tourism and Hospitality, and support programme development of a new Event Management degree.

To explore and identify how through the Olympics, sustainable development can be further weaved into teaching and learning strategies. To facilitate the exchange of material between UH academics and Canadian academics in the researching and teaching of subjects related to future Olympics

Podium 'Podium' is the Further and Higher Education Unit for the 2012 Games. The Unit has a nationwide remit and has two major aims; To communicate both within the sector and with outside agencies about the potential for Universities and Colleges to support the successful staging and delivery of the 2012 Games. To coordinate the development of activity within the sector that maximises the benefits of hosting the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in this country, contributing to the building of a sustainable and wide reaching legacy.
