The Beginning of Trout Unlimited In 1963, three chapters of trout unlimited were opened in the state of Pennsylvania. – Pittsburg, Philadelphia, and Harrisburg The purpose of the chapters was to get a committee formed to discuss management options for PA’s trout fisheries, and suggest them to the game commission

Chapters There are more than 400 chapters nationwide. More than ten percent of these are located here in Pennsylvania. – A total of 56 chapters in PA

Programs: Eastern Abandon Mine Program Abandon mine drainage is the biggest current threat to brook trout in the Appellation region The stream recovery projects take years and even decades to produce results There are currently 1,200 projects in progress throughout the state

Programs: Brook Trout Habitat Initiative State wide inventory of native brook trout habitats, with a special focus on streams with a high capacity for healthy trout populations. – Projects include: restoring degraded roadways, planting along streams, stabilizing stream banks, and reconnecting severed streams.

Programs: Keystone Coldwater Conference Provides attendees with crucial information on cold water management techniques. – Topics: Protection, conservation, and restoration of our cold water resources. – The event is biennial – All Information covered will be made available to the public on the website http://www.coldwaterheritage.org/keystone- coldwater-conference
