STORE LAY-OUT Lay-out means arranging/placing the furniture fixtures and check-out in a store. It is just like the skeleton of a human body. It is also a part of the AMBIENCE. Flooring ceiling, light, furniture and color constitute the AMBIENCE of a store.

PRINCIPLES OF LAY-OUT Leave 50% shop floor vacant for aisles in food division,supermarket, C-store etc and 100 sq ft per check out should be vacant Bigger the store, wider should be the aisle. C-store: 4.5 ft Super market: 5-6 ft Hypermarket : 8-10 ft, main aisle - 20 ft. All checkouts should be in a row with numbering. At least 6’ to 8’ should be left vacant in the front and back of the checkout. In hypermarket it may be 12 to 20 ft

Cont… All gondolas should face the checkouts. Make provision for baggage stand near entry Use signage. Make provision for gondola end. Make provisions for dump display. Make CRM counter near the entry. Escalators / Ramp must in multi storied building

Cont… Left in – Right out Use shelf talkers/ vertical banners. Regulate entry / exit Big parking a must for bigger stores / hypermarkets. Wall ceiling is not required. Use of dump display where two broad aisles meet.

Cont… DEPARTMENT STORE Less checkouts Space not necessary in the back of the counter. It may be wall touching. Blocks are given for categories / browsers. Lavish use of Mannequins Use browser top for rate, brand,size etc Less racks more browsers
